More Mottos: BE PREPARED

Maybe Boy Scouts seems corny to you, but it is serious business, and the Boy Scout Motto is no laughing matter:

BE PREPARED

This is going to be a long post so sit back and grab a snack. What I am about to write we all need to hear and we all need to take seriously. Some people don't like hearing stuff like this but we all need to be informed so that we can BE PREPARED.

My last post talked about IN GOD WE TRUST. Well guess what folks we have to do more than just trust in the Lord. We are required to do our part. I myself am feeling quite unprepared so I am writing this for myself as well.

We are told from time to time by our leaders in this Church to have food storage. We really need fuel, water, food, camping/hunting/fishing gear, skills in gardening, hunting, mending, etc. Truly we need to take some time and learn the basics. Why? Well at any moment we can be thrust into chaos. It can be from a natural disaster or a man made cataclysm.

It is the man made destruction that I want to discuss. It is fool hardy to suppose that a major attack on the United States is not forthcoming. We can see the hatred many people have for our Christian ways and our democracy. It may be hard for us to comprehend but there are many that want to destroy us simply because we believe in freedom. For those that are Christian we have the Bible to tell us of great destruction in the Last Days. For those of us blessed with the Book of Mormon, the Doctrine and Covenants, and modern day prophets we have been told that this destruction will happen. Satan is working hard and bringing this to fruition. We must not fear. We should we not fear? Because of 2 things: We will trust in God and we will Be Prepared. If we do not have one our both of those things in our lives then we do need to fear.

Let us not be like the ancient Jews in Jerusalem that said they could not be destroyed. The United States is a great land and has great power. This does not mean that we cannot be brought to our knees. Nuclear attack is possible, but it is not a nuclear attack that I want to address. There is an attack that is much easier, more effective, and harder to defend against.

What would we do if the power grids stopped working, our vehicles failed, refrigeration was nonexistent, gas pumps stopped working, all communication lines failed, planes and trains no longer functioned? How would we eat? How could we live without a department store to sell us clothes? How would we cook if we had food? How would we drink water if the treatment plants could no longer clean the water? Sickness and disease would be rampant and so would wide spread starvation. Banks with all their electronic data would lose it all. Our money would be gone. Only bartering with precious metals and the like will be possible. It scares me because I am unprepared. Lets do something about it.

What kind of attack am I talking about? It is called an EMP or electromagnetic pulse. One small nuclear device (about the power of the bomb dropped at Hiroshima) fired 298 miles into the air in a simple inaccurate missile (like a Scud) over the United States would destroy all devices that operate on electricity. It can be fired from a small freighter(ie any small vessel that is non military) off our coast. We have no defense against such an attack currently. One device like that would almost be 100% effective in bringing this nation to its knees. 2 or more devices would finish the job and destroy the infrastructure of our neighbors, Canada and Mexico. It could take years to finish rebuilding the infrastructure. This is a very real possibility. See the image below.

Senator Jon Kyl of Arizona wrote an article for the Washington Post in April 2005 entitled "Unready For This Attack". Take the time to read it. Let it settle in our minds. Let us take action and be prepared and trust in the Lord.

The scariest thing is the proliferation of information like the map you have posted which fuels the knowledge of those who have our ill engrained in their will and would otherwise not really know about such consepts as an EMP, or at least not have as much detailed already drawn out plans. The attacks that take place in cyberspace are constant and are typically never publicized. Major corporations are spending enormous amounts of money to secure their stability with their electronic infrastructure. Yet all those hackers who would have to do is detonate a small EMP near a known facility and they will have succeeded in bringing this company or that company to their knees.

Preparation requires planning that includes sitting around thinking of the possible worst case scenarios. Yet beware of those who would prey upon your desire for finding solutions to the toughest of problems.

My current favorite scheme I see way too often (several times a week) is the concept of running your car on water, waterforgas, or H2O4Gas, or waterfuel. Although the concept might have it's legitimate scientific potential, the affiliate programs on the internet which are sucking people into these schemes are ultimately just looking to make as much money as they can and leave the suckers left wondering why they never made any money off of the program as an affiliate. People are taking advantage of the current economic environment and price of gas to prey on those of us who would love an alternative.

All I am saying is be weary and extra careful as you approach your efforts to be prepared. There are other people who are pursuing the creation of their own fuel from used leftover frying oil and yet again others who claim to make the fuel from sugar by cooking their own moonshine essentially. Some of these concepts are probably more promising and yet the cost to get setup for something like that and produce results which are successful can be much more expensive. I thought it was sooo cool when I saw that the service station on Sossaman and Main in east Mesa started selling E85 fuel.

The answers and solutions may be many when it comes to being prepared but sooo much of it is tied to being well informed, educated, and generally "un-gullible".

Once you have been around the block a time or 2 with these MLM, pyramid, and generally flawed business plan companies, you can spot the ones looking for suckers.
Be prepared and don't be a sucker!

P.S. - YTB is another one that has recently had a lawsuit filed against them in California by the Attorney genral for pyramid scheme practices click here to read about it.

What Jeremy wrote is valid. Don't fall for schemes. To be prepared gain knowledge and basic skills. Learn to live on less and rely on yourself and your skills to get by. Don't rely on someone's hair brained scheme as an out. There are no quick ways to get prepared. It takes planning and practice. But when the crud hits the fan you won't be in the dark.

So in other words, get your food storage going. Prepare to be self-efficient and last and certainly not least, Get yourself a gun(s) so you can actually use the stuff if(when) it hits the fan. I have heard more than once a comment from someone who said if it ever hit the fan they would just go get food from the Mormons, because they store up food.

Tell me that is not scary. I saw grown people fight for ice at Fry's not 2 hours into a black-out. Dan is right on when he says it could all go off like a powder keg. It does not and will not take as much as the average uninformed American thinks. We enjoy a very blessed life, that should be protected.

Stand up Fellow Patriots!
